Sarah is an avid outdoorswoman with a great love for books and creating stories. Her career has spanned many topics and locations including working as a professional ecologist for over ten years. She now makes a living as a freelance writer specializing in the outdoor travel industry. She is the author of two books with one more under contract. Buy her hiking guides here.
After obtaining three environmental degrees and spending over 10 years working for state and federal governments, Sarah left her career as an ecologist in 2018.
It happened shortly after she had become a mother when her career was making her miserable. She wanted to make sure that her son knew her as someone who enjoyed, and was even proud of, their work. So she set out to make that happen.
At first, she simply spent time with her son to enjoy the transition into motherhood. But then she got to work. She had always loved writing within her job responsibilities and knew she was good at it. She took a freelance pitching course from a fellow outdoor freelance writer and author and the rest was history.
She now works as a full-time freelance writer focusing on slow and sustainable travel. She also dabbles in the topics of parenting, maternal mental health and wellness, and environmental advocacy. She has bylines in The Denver Post, Matador Network, REI Co-op Journal, 5280 Magazine, and can be heard on NPR's The Takeaway.
